There is nothing that epitomises the Masai Mara experience more than floating over the golden savanna dotted with animals in a hot air balloon. It’s truly a bucket list experience and we advise you to book this excursion at the same time as your accommodation to ensure a place.

Your day will start early so that you can catch that wondrous golden morning light. Our custom 4x4 safari vehicles will collect you from your camp or lodge between 04h00 and 05h30, whereafter we'll drive to the launch site and arrive around 06h00. Depending on the weather that day, you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea until the balloon is ready for departure.

After a quick safety briefing and what you can expect, you'll set off at around 06h30, rising higher and higher until you meet the clouds, and you get to see more and more of the magnificent Maasai Mara Plains opening before your eyes. Your pilot will point out any photo opportunities and wildlife below as you soak in the 360-degree views for the next hours, depending on wind conditions.

You will never realise how different Maasai life is from your own until you visit a Maasai village. As the village lies outside the National Reserve an hour from camp, your game drive is en-route to the village. Bring cash as the ladies display all sorts of crafts for sale, including colourful ethnic beadwork. Ask your guide about protocols of taking photographs. You can book this excursion in advance or while you are at camp.

Let us surprise you with an al-fresco picnic bush breakfast/lunch out in the wilds and we’ll pull out all the stops for a special celebration (be sure to let us know). Picnic and camp beverages included. Champagne, special wines & luxury spirits excluded.

Sundowner Hill is about 15 minutes’ drive from Entim Camp and it’s our favourite place to stop for drinks and snacks to watch the sun go down. Admire the 360 degree views of big sky savanna that epitomises the Masai Mara and captures the heart of everyone who comes here. Since Entim Camp is conveniently located nearby, there’s no hurry to finish your drinks before sunset, unlike other lodges that have to dash back or face a fine. As the daylight fades and no-one else is around, it feels like the Masai Mara is our own private wilderness. Soft drinks, water, beer, house wines and non-luxury spirits included.

Get the very best out of your safari by rejuvenating in the Entim SPA. Our body, hand and foot rituals will give you a "reboot" to feel a fresh sense of ultimate relaxation.

While both wings have their own Photographic Studio, Entim Private Wing is designed specifically for Photographic Safaris and is booked from late January to March and July to October for small groups of maximum 12-16 people by renowned photo safari guides. You can expect photo-adapted vehicles, lens hire, iMac workstations pre–installed with Photoshop and Lightroom (tuition given), tips on camera use, photography techniques, composition, flash and macro, plus extra luggage transported from Nairobi (due to the 15kg aircraft luggage limit).
